Refresh your early Fall Look without buying anything new
Welcome September. Here on the east coast, it feels like Fall in the morning and Summer by the afternoon. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love summer, I’m ready to switch up what I’m wearing. It’s time to take a break from the dresses I’ve been wearing nonstop and refresh my everyday look by incorporating some pieces I haven’t worn in a while because it’s been too hot. But we aren’t full on Fall yet, so what do you wear in this transitional weather?
Here are a few tips to bring a breath of fresh air into your early Fall look. The best thing - these can be created right from your own closet.
Adjust your color palette
Just retiring and tucking away the pieces that “scream” height of summer can make you feel like you have a whole new wardrobe. Opt for focusing on rich neutral hues - chocolate brown, tan, khaki, olive, cream, black, navy, dusty pink, burgundy. Keep your colors to 2-3 max for an effortless yet elevated look:
Balance out your sandals
Yes, you can still wear open toe sandals way into the Holiday Season as long as you can tolerate it. I love how a little bit of skin offsets something chunky or covered up, like wearing a chunky sweater with sandals.
Add texture
if you have suede sandals or bags or accessories, this is the time to pull them out. Leather, silk, patent, and animal prints also add the right amount of “Fall” to a crisp white blouse and jeans or dress.
Ground your whites and brights with darker hues
Yes, you can still wear white and brights and pastels right now. Ground those summery pieces with dark or leopard sandals or a rich colored bag. Pinks, reds and butter yellow feel right at home when paired with tan and chocolate brown.
Add a “smart” piece
Summer is naturally easy and effortless. Come Fall, it’s a natural time (back to school / back from holiday) to dress a little smarter. What does that mean? Add some structure to your look. Pair a blazer over a tank or dress, bring out your button downs, tie necks, loafers and slip on mules. Adding just one of these elements can feel fresh and practical right now.
Switch up your jewelry
Dig into your jewelry drawer and pull a few pieces to swap out your regular go-to’s. Bolder, chunkier pieces add a little extra weight to breezy outfits. Just switching up your jewelry can bring new life to your everyday look.
Change your polish
Sometimes, t’s the simple things. Darker reds, browns, greys, midnight blue, dusty pink. A polish change can really transform the way your sandals look. I’m currently loving the dark brown of Essie’s “Dark Night” and how it contrasts against a tan or white sandal. Definitely a step into Fall.
Dig into your closet and have some fun!
