An effortless Summer Capsule Edit

Summer officially starts Sunday, but who’s counting.  With the temperatures already in the 80’s and 90’s on the east coast, it feels like its already here. 

Besides being by the ocean, my favorite thing about this time of year is embracing a casual effortless style. Pairing easy pieces with practical ones and then finishing with a few of your personal accessories to elevate your look.  There’s nothing better than feeling comfortable and looking like you didn’t try hard.

I also love seasonal capsule edits, which is just a mini edit of your favorite things that fit your body where it is today.  By putting together all your favorites that you can actually wear right now, you are able to see your things in a new light which makes them feel inspired and fresh.

I always start with a vision board on Pinterest to set the tone of how I want to feel. I get inspired by something I see and then I shop my own closet to see if I can re-create it.  If I feel like I’m missing something that could really round out my edit - like a beautiful fitting cotton poplin or linen white dress - I add potentials to my board as I online shop.

Here are a few things I’m embracing to capture the carefree spirit of summer.   I hope they inspire you to create your own summer capsule that is made up of everything you love.

Dresses 

Dresses are literally effortless. They are comfortable for working from home, practical for running errands and easily transition for a night out with friends.  They look great with flats, wedges and sneakers.  Florals, white, cotton, linen are my favorite but anything goes.  My favorite style trick - they double as coverup at the pool or beach. 

Shell jewelry

The ocean is my happy place so it’s only fitting to wear something that makes me think of it daily.  I also love how the youthful carefree vibe of shells feel layered against more traditional jewelry. 

Summer whites

A white dress, white with white denim, white against natural linen.  Soft white nail polish and white sandals.  The combinations are endless.  And best of all, it always feels fresh, clean and timeless. 

Practical sandals 

Over the past couple years, I’ve embraced more practical walking shoes.  I live in the city, so I love being able to walk everywhere.  And I also love the contrast of a practical shoe or sneaker against a feminine look.  Add a designer bag to really elevate the casualness. 

Straw bag 

Somehow elevates and transports to a feeling of another time.  Also means I’m ready at the drop of the hat to hit the pool or beach.

Statement Sunglasses 

I’m a big believer that accessories can transform an outfit and sunglasses are at the top of the list.  You can really have fun with shapes, colors while keeping the rest of your outfit simple.
