How to incorporate trends into your wardrobe that work authentically for you
I really love when the new season comes around.. It’s a natural time to refresh my wardrobe with a few new pieces and at the same time let go of things that no longer work. But with the new season comes all the trends. And as a 53 year old woman, I want to feel like “me’… not like everyone else.
That doesn’t mean we have to shy away from the trends all together. Read on for my tips on Incorporating them in a way that works authentically for you…
Clarify how you want to feel and what works for you.
You’ve probably heard me say this before :) - but it’s such an important step to take a pause and make note of how you want to feel.
Here’s a simple exercise: write down 3 words that capture your look for the season. Don’t overthink it. Just go with what feels right for you.
Here are mine: Feminine, Easy and Effortless.
Once you do this, you’ll be able to shop with focus and you’ll avoid buying trends that don’t fit your style.
Get really specific with your shopping list
And I mean really specific. Instead of “Blouses,” maybe it’s cotton or silk dark floral blouses that I can tuck into jeans. Instead of “black boots,” maybe it’s “black leather ankle boots with a 3 inch block heel and pointy toe that I can dress up and down.”
Get the idea?
And if those specific black boots with the block heel happen to be the ones that are trending this season, go for it.
Focus on Fit
if you love something, but It’s also trending this season, embrace it! just make sure it fits you beautifully. When a piece fits your body perfectly, it will always feel like it’s made for you and will never feel trendy.
Embrace the French Way
The French always have a “Je ne sais quoi” vibe, which I can only describe as “I just threw this together, I’m not trendy, but I look modern and comfortable in my own skin and uniquely me” Stay authentic to you. It it feels right, it’s something you love and makes you feel beautiful, go for it.
this is your time to embrace and love who you are.
